Through quarantines and COVID-19, it has been a year of Elopements and Intimate Weddings! Maybe it’s the introvert in us, but we are HERE FOR IT! We had our own intimate wedding and know first hand, how much easier it can be! You’ll likely enjoy less stressful wedding planning, but even more important…you’ll enjoy some incredibly intentional time with the ones you love! Here are our favorite things about Intimate Weddings.
Quality time with your guests
We’ve shot so many weddings where the couple is meeting the 3rd cousin of their new spouse that they’ve never heard of. sure, that can be a little awkward, but it’s also not exactly how you dreamed of spending your time on your wedding day. Instead of meeting people, or catching up with people you haven’t seen since high school… get some high quality time with the ones you love the most.
Opportunities to be intentional
We LOVE personalized weddings. The ones where every detail is just soooo YOU. When your wedding is small, it opens up opportunities to plan your ceremony somewhere unique and add meaningful touches. You can invite friends and family into your story by serving dinner at your favorite date night restaurant. You could sit down with ALL of your guests at one table. You could hand write personalized letters to each guest letting them know how they have impacted your lives. You can create personalized welcome gifts or favors that make your guests feel special. You can allow your guests to share stories and toasts to the newlyweds. There are so many opportunities to be intentional when you have 30 guests instead of 300. The possibilities are endless!
WE get to know your people
Elopements and Intimate Weddings often include a handful of your closest friends and family. This is so special for us because it allows us to focus our energy on connecting with and photographing those that have the strongest relationship with you. It is far more likely that we will be documenting a special moment between you and someone that will be a part of your life forever vs. a current work acquaintance. We also just love the idea of getting to know your family! It’s such an incredible thing to be welcomed into someone’s story and a huge part of that is the ones that raised your and walk alongside you in your everyday life. When we get to know them too, we get to preserve more of your story.
Your dog can come too!
Stop pretending that you haven’t always dreamt of having your dog be your ring bearer! Elopements and small weddings are often held outdoors in nature, or even in your backyard! You’ll be able to bring your other best friend for some puppy cuddles. Instead of leaving your dog home alone, invite her to your most special day and let her greet your guests and bring you joy.
You can focus on the commitment
Let’s be honest, the commitment of choosing a spouse and deciding to keep choosing them everyday for the rest of your life is a BIG DEAL. It is a selfless act and an important commitment, and sometimes all the fluff of a wedding day can overshadow how incredible marriage is! When it comes to your wedding, it’s important to remember that the whole point of having a celebration is that you and your partner share your commitments and promises to each other. When you strip away the sequins, the glam, the fancy table settings, and the large crowd you are left with the stuff that really matters.
