Like us, Garrek and Kara are one of those couples that talk about what they won’t ever do when they become parents. I remember Garrek telling me that he will always be up for “guys night out” or camping trips. He mentioned never using a baby as an excuse to skip a get together or hang out. (If you have kids, you probably know where this is going).
It is actually one of my all time favorite things to watch how becoming a parent changes people. This change is nearly always for the better. Before kids we think we understand. We have ideas about what it will be like…I’m guilty of it myself. However, I think having a baby shifts so much about where you find your identity, and what you assign value to. Children have a way of putting things in perspective and reminding us what actually matters.
As you could imagine, Garrek has discovered being a dad is actually the best excuse to get out of an obligation. Sometimes I wish people would accept the excuse that my dog needs me to be home tonight, lol! Joking aside, Garrek still gets nights with the guys, and Kara still finds value in serving others, but both put their family, and little Brenna as their number one priority. They are the best parents for Brenna Beth and I love watching how she has grabbed a hold of their hearts.
