Here in Kentuckiana, it is Derby weekend. That means everyone is out wearing their fancy hats, fascinators, pink dresses, and seersucker suits with bow ties. If you are a transplant to this area, like us, you probably will have to google the word “fascinator”…don’t worry, I did too. So while most folks are busy with their derby festivities, we are at home cooking dinner and listening to music we loved back in high school.
Dashboard Confessional anyone? There might not be any better blast-from-the-past-sing-along music. I actually have a very vivid memory of high school Haley sitting in my room listening to Swiss Army Romance and scrapbooking photos that I had taken and was super proud of. Aren’t we all glad that I have graduated from point and shoot cameras to a DSLR and from scrapbooking to blogging?
Tonight I have the pleasure of introducing you to an incredibly sweet couple, Luke and Lauren. I know I’ve said it before, but it was Lauren’s original email that made me really want Chandler Rose to be a part of their wedding. I could tell they loved God, love each other, and really loved the people in their lives. Lauren works with premature little babies at Norton Children’s Hospital here in Louisville, and Luke is a firefighter. These two have chosen to spend their days serving and giving to others. In some ways, they get to live out a very literal gospel by caring for and rescuing the hurting and the broken. I find it admirable, and I believe that their marriage will be a very real picture of humility, love, and respect. I hope these images show their kind hearts…their selflessness…his adoration for her…and her respect for him.
And to end our evening we’ve moved from Dashboard to Something Corporate from our pop-punk phase. We also had a bit of a screamo phase, but I’ll spare you. 😉
In the spirit of reminiscing, I asked Luke and Lauren about their high school selves and what they would have been jamming out to. Luke says Nirvana Come as You Are…classic. Lauren says any Taylor Swift song! Which also seems very fitting, and at the same time makes me feel old.
So let’s hear it…what was YOUR jam in high school?! It’s important. We need to know!
